About this country

- Katherine is a regional town in the Northern Territory, located about 320 kilometres south of Darwin. Known as a gateway to the Top End, Katherine is surrounded by spectacular natural landscapes, including rivers, gorges, waterfalls and thermal springs.
- The region has a rich Aboriginal history and is connected to the traditional lands of the Jawoyn, Dagoman and Wardaman peoples. Nitmiluk National Park and Katherine Gorge are especially significant for their natural beauty and Aboriginal cultural heritage.
- Katherine also has an interesting European history, with the town developing around the Overland Telegraph Line and later the railway. Today, it is an important regional centre and a popular base for exploring the surrounding landscapes and cultural attractions.
